Gunmen attack PDP chair in Kogi

From Ahmad Ibrahim, Lokoja

The Kogi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Engr. Sam Uhuotu on Friday escaped death by whiskers when unknown gunmen attacked him at Abaji, while on his way from Abuja to Lokoja.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Bode Ogunmola, who confirmed the attack, explained that the chairman was returning from Abuja where he had gone to see his personal physician for medical checkup when the gunmen laid ambush on him and pointed gun at his head.

Ogunmola, who  disclosed that the gunmen, numbering about 20, carted away valuables belonging to Engr. Uhuotu, however expressed gratitude to God that the party chairman is ‘hale and hearty’.

“I can confirm to you that his international passport, his voter card, other personal effects and some cash were collected from him,” adding that psychologically, people are trying to destabilize him.

Ogunmola, who could not tell the motives behind the attack on the party chairman, however stressed that only the police could ascertain whether it was a robbery incident or an assassination attempt after its investigations.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has described its Ward Congresses held on Thursday to pick the adhoc delegates to the next week’s governorship primaries in the state as peaceful and credible.

Ogunmola  who disclosed this in Lokoja, averred that the party is ready to conduct free fair and transparent primaries come September 10.

He debunked insinuations that the party is planning to substitute the incumbent governor, Captain Idris Wada should he emerge as the party’s candidate at the primaries, emphasizing that the party’s constitution does not give room for such.
